TTSUNAMI AQUATICS
About Us

Tsunami Aquatics first opened its doors on 7th April 2004 and has been growing ever since.

Friends and previous work colleagues Lee Hulford and Chris Lewis hatched the initial idea of opening their own aquatic store several years previous. After much planning, lots of meetings, some good fortune and many resulting months of stress, Tsunami Aquatics was born and we hope you enjoy what you find.

We were very lucky to have the opportunity to base our business onsite at Chepstow Garden Centre, which is arguably becoming the premier garden centre in South Wales.

The aquatics centre is in a separate building accessed either directly from the far end of the car park or from inside the garden centre and through the lake and gardens area.

The building was purpose built for Tsunami Aquatics and has a large outdoor sales area (partly covered for shopping in the sometimes wet Welsh weather!), connecting to landscaped gardens with large ornamental lake and waterfall.

Inside you will find something to whet most aquatic appetites; from a large selection of fully quarantined tropical fish, fancy goldfish and pond fish through to an extensive choice of aquariums and pond equipment to suit all budgets.

We are a member of OATA (ornamental aquatic trade association).

TTSUNAMI AQUATICS
Our Name...

We would like to assure you that Tsunami Aquatics was named long before the terrible events of Boxing Day 2004.

In light of what was a horrific natural tragedy we gave very serious thought to our business name but after much discussion with friends, business associates and customers we decided that changing our name would achieve nothing and so chose to make a donation to the appeal fund instead.

Many, many thanks to all our customers who also contributed, generously putting into the collection tins what was often more than just loose change.

The original inspiration for the name was twofold. The Japanese artist Katsushiki Hokusai’s painting that depicts a “Tsunami” (or tidal wave) known as “In the well of the great wave of Kanugowa”-more commonly recognised as part of a logo for a famous surf company!

The other and probably more truthful reason for the choice of name is that it’s a song by the Welsh band The Manic Street Preachers.
